A ghostly good time was had when we visited Jerome Arizona! Jerome is an old mining town in the Black Hills of Yavapai County in Arizona.  Prior to being a wild west mining town, it was mined by the native american people for copper, malachite and azurite.  In 1585, a Spanish exploring expedition found the ore.  In 1598, Captain de los Godos, hired by Juan de Onate, went to explore and stake the land, claiming the copper mine, which eventually became Jerome.  It was named after an early investor.  It became a town March 8, 1898 and grew to house into a million dollar copper town.  By 1920, Jerome had 15,000 residents from all over the world.

We visited the miners cemetery and explored the very haunted Jerome Grand Hotel which was originally the United Verde Hospital.

Jerome Miner's Cemetery gets a ghost rating!

Today, Jerome is a quaint small town and a thriving tourist and artist community with a population of about 450 +.  The Jerome Grand Hotel, which was a hospital, has a reputation for being haunted.  On an overnight visit I experienced hospital sounds and sounds of coughing and moaning.  We captured this photo in the elevator shaft of the "hotel" which we both feel is Claude Harvey.  He was killed in 1935 when he was caught underneath the hospital elevator and decapitated.  Look closely for the shadows of a face with mouth open.  Pretty scary stuff!

On a lighter note... ghost tramping works up an appetite so stop by the Jerome Grand Hotel and take lunch at the Asylum Restaurant.  Don't forget a huge piece of chocolate cake for dessert! To "die" for.
